FOURTH OF JULY, ALASKAN STYLE (5) ...

I decided to do the "out-of-focus" background because it helps hide the otherwise-unavoidable chain-link fence in the background, along with all of the wires and pipes these folks used to hold the float together ... all the modern-day junk in the photo that detracted from the beautiful, historical native clothing they wear.

I also like the way the softening blends the eagle's-head mask at photo-top into the flag and his cape ... without seeing the wearer's head and face ... without the softening, it doesn't accomplish that very well.

Lastly, it was simply a deliberate artistic decision to focus on the young girl and "ignore" the other person's backside, while leaving the artwork impression of that individual's cape still somewhat visible :)
