A rider on vyala (yali) and a defeated elephant.

Vyala, also called sardula, is popular motif in Indian art, consisting of a composite leonine creature with the head of a tiger, elephant, bird, or other animal, frequently shown in combat with humans or pouncing upon an elephant.

Some tourist guides say that images of elephants dominated by lions symbolise fight with human weakness or "the triumph of the spirit over matter" but other explanation is symbolic hindu revival after period of buddhism...
