Lake Gairdner

This section of Lake Gairdner is on Yardea Station in the north of South Australia.

This great white salt lake expands 160 km long and 48 km across. The lake is considered to be the fourth largest salt lake in the country, but very rarely holds water.

These days the lake is not only a great tourist attraction but a high speed raceway for some of the fastest vehicles in the world. Its incredible size and flatness has become a popular location for dare devils attempting to break land speed records.
