Saltburn Cliff Railway

The Saltburn Cliff Railway (or Tramway according to the stained glass in the cars) was opened in 1884, replacing a vertical lift which had been closed the previous year for safety reasons. The Cliff Railway is still operated by water balance - although I believe the water is pumped back up the cliff so it isn't quite as "green" as you might think. At the foot of the incline is Saltburn Pier, originally opened in 1869.
