Race Rocks Lighthouse, Strait Of Juan De Fuca, British Columbia, Canada
This is the second oldest lighthouse in British Columbia, dating back to 1860, and a few months younger than Fisgard lighthouse. Located 9 miles southwest of Victoria on Great Race Rock. Race Rocks is a treacherous area with swirling racing tides and the site of several marine disasters in the 1800's.
The 80 foot tower is built of stone and was completely restored in 2009. It flashes a white light every 10 seconds. The original keeper's house was demolished in 1974. The island is an ecological research center since 1997. This is the only British Columbia lighthouse I saw that did not have a white tower and a red lantern room.
