Stormy August Night... Minneapolis, Mn.
Yesterday was one of those weird days where you just couldn't tell what the weather was going to do. Was it going to rain or was the sun about to break out. There was some humidity in the air and they were calling for "severe" storms all day. The sun sets right around 8:00 here now. At about 7:00 I was pondering if I should head out with my gear or not. Didn't look like there was anything really going on besides some thick grey covering. I sat out on the front porch and was watching the sky and I noticed that the thick clouds were starting to break up a bit and show some nice blue skies through the openings. At 7:30 I said F' it and grabbed my gear and made a mad dash for downtown. It's about a 15 minute drive from my place. When I got down to St. Anthony Main it was quiet and it looked like the skies had the potential to do some showing off. I'm really glad I made the split decision to head down as it was more then worth it.
I did botch a few of the shots (like this one) by not stopping the camera down to get some nice light stars from the lights going across the bridge. Either way I am happy with the image and glad I got out to shoot one of my favorite local scenes with the 5d mkII.
It really is amazing how wide the full frame is at 17mm. Almost too wide :) I swear I can get double the amount of a scene in then I could before at 10mm on the crop sensor! The one thing I will really need to learn now is lens distortion correction. I've heard the new LR4 has some great controls for this. Guess it's time to upgrade.
