The Letter - Carte de Visite of Three Women and a Man
This carte de visite is blind stamped "Pollock". This Pollock embossed stamp is by Henry Pollock of Baltimore. A man and woman stand behind a studio window while two young women sit looking at a sheet of paper. The back carries a 3 cent green revenue stamp that places it during the American Civil War. I am tempted to imagine a family reading a letter from a soldier.
Although the window and column suggest that they are outside the carpet pattern in the foreground and the legs on castors of a rolling reflector say they are in the studio.
