Tintype of a Bride Doll

    Newer Older

In this tintype a doll dressed as a bride stands before a painted backdrop. Why was she photographed alone? Was she a special doll of a girl who wanted her picture as a memento? Was she a sample for a doll seller or a model to show a style of wedding dress? We will never know.

I spent some time this week in the storage box of tintypes and picked out some that I will be posting over the next few days. Once again I am finding images that I had forgotten but feel are worth sharing.

Been back to see this about half a dozen times already...It's just too marvelous!

She is kind of spooky I think. Maybe it is the wide open eyes or the fact that she is a bit out of focus. I can't believe I forgot her although she has been hiding in a box for quite a few years.

I think she is lovely, to me looks adorably startled, maybe you surprised her when you removed her from that box.

I've thought about it a little bit...but honestly I always come back to the same place, I just love the picture...someone took a picture that gave this doll emotion, and so she comes to life...she speaks....she has a particular voice...

she does have a voice, it's eerie.
