Daguerreotype of Girl with Crocheted or Knitted Gloves *
The little girl in this daguerreotype wears a yellow tinted polka dot dress, a pleated hat, and the most extraordinary crocheted or knitted, fingerless gloves. They are not like any I have seen in an image. Her right arm is slightly in front of the point of sharp focus which causes that glove not to shown any detail. The antique dealer who sold it to us exclaimed as his held it out. "Her arm is in a cast!" It does appear that it is but I am sure it is a mate to the sharply focused glove on her left arm.
Her expression is rather solemn (she will not make the Smiling Victorians pool). She wears ringlets on either side her of her cubby pink tinted cheeks.
*She is featured on a French web site on knitted garments for children which seems to answer my question. les8petites8mains.blogspot.it/2011/06/histoire-du-tricot-...
