once upon a time

It seems a fitting place to start.

When we travel to foreign places, we see things we don't normally see. We encounter things we don't normally find in our day to day lives, and each encounter is a story. It's impossible to go someplace completely different and not walk away with dozens of stories... funny, embarrassing, irritating, and often heartwarming. I don't have a blog, nor do I want one, and Facebook just isn't well suited to longer writing. So I will add a story to each photograph... some related to the image, others may be unrelated except that they took place in the same country.

This picture was taken on our first day/night in Budapest. We arrived too early in the morning, exhausted and jet-lagged, only to be told that they did not have a room ready for us yet. We sat in the lobby of the hotel, looking pitiful I'm sure, until someone checked out early and we could get into a room. After a few hours' nap, we woke to walk the city, still somewhat in a daze.

Elizabeth Bridge is perhaps the least interesting of the bridges in the core of Budapest, but sometimes graffiti surprises you in unexpected ways.
