EuCAN Cerne Valley Community Conservation project
We have been clearing an area of woodland on the Nether Cerne Estate adjacent to a species-rich chalk downland site where we have previouly been removing invading scrub. The aim is to create a habitat suitable for the threatened Duke of Burgundy butterfly which needs sunny but sheltered areas with primroses and cowslips. This work has been carried out under contract from Butterfly Conservation. On Dec 3rd 2015 we were joined by a team of 17 engineers from the Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton - between us we made a fantastic impact!
