opa's house #2

Opa's youngest grandchild is in the throes of adolescence, and the boys-next-door have families of their own, so perhaps this drawer is currently used for something useful, like socks.

It used to be a treasure trove, though, filled to overflowing with Dinky Toys, real Dinky Toys, and it was always fallen upon with glee by all houseguests under the age of twelve (Well, except for the neighbour's youngest son, perhaps, who had rather a penchant for Barbies.)

At my mother-in-law's funeral, one of aforementioned boys-next-door spoke, and solemnly mentioned "the drawer", not only because of its revered contents, but also because it symbolised the welcome accorded to everyone, old or young, who paid even the most fleeting of visits.
