Colusa County, California
An enormous supercell thunderstorm forms over the Northern Coast Range Mountains in Northern California. The storm was so large that it covered portions of Colusa, Lake and Glenn Counties. I chased the storm into the mountains, witnessing intense updrafts, lightning and precipitation. As evening fell, the supercell sighed and let loose a wonderfully cool downdraft. Though I did not capture any of the lightning strikes that I had come to shoot, I did end up with some of my favorite landscapes.
See the same storm cell at sunset, 5 hours 11 minutes later here
