IMG_2201: Custom Tone Curve Recipe - Surreal
This is image 2201's Tone Curve.
The half on the left shows the image with the Standard default parameters and settings.
The half on the right shows the 'after' image with my custom tone curve settings applied.
Below is what has been changed:
The tone curves for R, and G, and B have been altered as shown but with the middle (centre of axis) locked.
The Luminosity curve (RGB combined) has been left intact.
Contrast has been reduced to -2.
Saturation has been increased to +2.
Exposure has been increased by 0.5 stop.
(The simplest and easiest alternative is to set Saturation and contrast both at +2 using Standard picture style, and it is somewhat similar, but not quite this kind of effect).
These settings combined together approximate Canon's CLEAR picture style, which I sometimes use, and sometimes, I do it this way.
I can save this recipe and apply it as and when needed, and can fine-tune it further to suit my taste.
Note: The Two adjustment boxes are actually One dialog box, but because I wanted to show the Two tabs being used, I have had to display the dialog boxes separately.
Also this adjustment has been done while viewing on a consumer LCD monitor (uncalibrated), so I have no idea how it looks on a Professional calibrated reference monitor.
Of the Two renderings, which do you prefer, and why?
