    That' s a great shot, if only there was a zoom lens that could project exactly what it was that impacted that planet.

    It doesn't look like a Jupiter impact to me. Too quick. Compared with Shoemaker-Levy. No mark on surface suggests event nearer, even a bug near the camera catching light. Or another piece of human creativity.
    If a Jupiter event then a closer look by Earth's best instruments would be warranted. Is there any proposal to do this?

    This was all over the news, so it is real. The image quality wouldn't catch a spot as you can barely make out major cloud rings.

    That was probably lighting and not an impact event. It doesn't resemble the behavior of Shoemaker/Levy.

    Seems more like a monster-sized storm. No 'scar' visible as was the case with the Comet S-L fragments.
