1843_Banion Tree on Captiva Island

The Banion Tree is a really cool tree. The rope looking branches grow back into the ground and become roots! Bermuda used to covered with Cedar trees. In the 40s, a load of lumber brought to the island had a bug in it that ate cedar trees. In trying to save the trees, they released lady bugs to eat the cedar bugs, then they had to bring in lizards to eat the lady bugs, then they had to bring birds to eat the lizards, but the birds preferred the fish around the island . . . see what happens when you fool around with Mother Nature!
