the never ending sea of night

a reminiscence of a line from a poem, from the 1969 collection by spysgrandson, Poems from the Psychotic--I was 17 and who knows if I was psychotic...

On the shore, waves break against the earth’s spine

Winds echo sounds of forgotten tides

Behind me, a mountain pass

where stream brings life from long ago

a gift from melting snow

and returns it to the mighty sea

Horse and sleigh, and

my cottage far away

where owls play some game in the night

hooting their signal of our plight

snows weight leaves tree and covers ground

and there is no other sound

quiet—lonely, quiet—beauty, quiet—God
