Schloss Moritzburg

A “schloss” (or schloß) in German means a lock, perhaps not as in a padlock but as in a canal lock where passage through a canal can be controlled so that the passage fees or duties on goods can be levied by the schloss owner, which needless to say in the old days was likely an immensely powerful and wealthy nobleman. Over time, the word schloss is often used to denote the official residence of a local squire, in other words, a stately home. So this is basically the Moritzburg stately home.
