Stone Tools

The stone tools on display here are quite impressive and very ancient. If you enlarge this photograph you should be able to read the graphics.


The oldest stone tools discovered in Tasmania are 40,000 years old and were found in the Jordan River valley.


Stone knapping is the technique of fashioning these tools - simple axe heads or spear heads for hunting. It was quite a skilled process chipping away at stones in order to make them sharp and useful.
