    The ID is eluding me. Blister beetles? Oedemeridae? Might be a BugGuide bug... Many thanks to the little girl and her family that found these beetles. Following kids around is a pretty good way to find cool bugs. Probably a good way to get arrested too.

    Observed in Mount Diablo State Park in a grassy meadow. About 1 cm long.

      looks like soldier beetles. did you explain to the little girl that the beetles were just 'sleeping on top of each other'?

      Cool. A snakefly that's a beetle.

      Thanks, folks, soldier beetle it is. BugGuide suggests it's a species of Podabrus. Sarah, I think the kid knew what was up.
