This was the first female Calisoga I've found, so I was pretty pleased. She was under a large rock at the edge of some oak savanna (much like most of the Calisogas I find). She seemed a little antsy and the rock was kind of heavy so I scooped her into the end of my telephoto, inside the lens hood. Made for a decent little studio, but now you can all see how poorly I maintain my lenses (might explain some of my blurrier bird shots).

Ok....now I am forced to scream like a little kid.
      HATE spiders.....but understand.

Even large, adorably irascible, somewhat iridescent spiders?

Yes, Sir. The bigger they are, the worse it is for me. Snakes? all day long....spiders? creepy!!
I've been to Diablo a couple times during mating season and it is very cool to see, but my skin gets itchy. :-)

Great shot! I love these little critters!

As far as lens maintenance goes - I think it kind of goes with the territory when you're out in the wild. I've often winced while I'm plowing through high grass with my camera, knowing that flying dust, grass, and branches are likely to scrape my lens. Not to mention grit getting into the mechanism.

wow - I've gottta admit it does bring out the heeby-geebies in me, despite my love of all things biological...must be genetic. If I sent this photo to my mom, she'd pass out, and then kill me.

Cool shot; putting spiders directly on the front glass probably doesn't help its cleanliness either....
