Complex spaces, Wells
Looking back from the Lady Chapel into the retrochoir, with a glimpse of the organ and the nave vault beyond. A sidesman prepares books for the midday Communion.
The octagon of the Lady Chapel is fitted into a complex vaulted space (the retrochoir) to the east of the high choir. Pillars spring up in a subtle array and support a marvellously rich and inventive vault.
I liked the similarity to C17 Dutch paintings of church interiors, the strong three-dimensional spaces and the perspective across the tiled floor. A great place to play with the Olympus 7-14mm lens!
