This watercolour painting has seen many incarnations over the years. It started off as a biro doodle which I did in a rather dull Art History lecture at Uni. Next, it became a B/W scraperboard pic which was made with scraping tools, then a ceramic tile, then a watercolour painting, a second watercolour pic painted into a wooden box for an archaeology exhibition, a small cartoon watercolour and pen illustration for a government booklet about sustainability, a large watercolour illustration for a children's book, and then finally this picture which is just for me. :¬)
This picture shows the beginning of a journey.
The boat has been pushed into the sea, the wind blows strongly, snatching leaves from the tree and sending them on a journey of their own.
The woman stands at the rear of the boat, holding the mast, which the man sits in the front with their cat (modelled by Jimmy), behind the man is food stored in amphorae. The boat has an eye at the front, to help guide them through stormy weather.
