2 Red Cracking Boletes - Blackheath, September. 2005
Blackheath Garden, London.
Boletus chrysenteron agg. (red-cracking boletes)
Mid Sept. These fungi appeared last year in large numbers. They are listed as edible (if my id is correct) but the stems are largely infested and the aged fruit body suffers from a down of white mould. The whole body turns white, then rots to an aqueous black.
