Love this shot. Great sense of motion.

I notice that no one in Coppenhagen seems to wear a helmet. Here in the USA, I get angry looks and comments when I go out without my bike helmet. I generally manage to bite my tongue and not point out to those making the comments that thousands of lives would be saved every week if automobile drivers wore helmets.

Blouse and bag. My, what an emancipated culture you have. :-)

What's the make of the bike? Looks like Old Dutch or similar. Definitely not a Gazelle.

    Thanks everyone.
@Diarmaede: Very few people wear helmets here. I don't. It messes up my hair - which is often the reason people give. Even the Vice-Mayor in charge of transport and infrastructure was quoted as saying that he doesn't wear a helmet because he has a big head and it makes him look stupid.
I think, also, that because we ride on dedicated bike lanes, separated - by and large - from the cars, people don't feel unsafe or threatened.
Although lately there are more interesting helmets appearing on the market - fashionable ones, cool ones like skateboarding helmets, and in many different colours. People won't wear those typical cycling helmets worn by bike racers.

@Nanobiker: Old Dutch. And brand new by the looks of it. Don't see many Old Dutch bikes here. Danish brands dominate. But it's a nice bike.

The reason why people don't wear helmets like you said it because cyclists are "considered" from the beginning. They are not an after thought like in the UK. I spend some time in Holland and the priority is given to cyclists, cycling in Holland is fun and safe. Cycling in the UK can be dangerous and a helmet is considered sensible. I don't wear one as it hot and looks crap but Im told that Im mad because you don't wear one.

Exactly. In this city and others like it where bicycle culture is advanced, biking is safe because of our highly-developed infrastructure.

Technically, if helmets were made mandatory then all pedestrians would have to wear them, too.

    Wouldn't that look stupid.

    Really great photo.

I've got that same bike (same colour too). I used to have it in yellow, but it broke and they'd apparently stopped making them in yellow.. Really odd.
