Sarayönü Square, Nicosia, Cyprus

"Sarayönü" literally means the Palace Front which reflects the fact that the former Royal Palace of the House of Lusignans used to stand here for many centuries until the British period when it was pulled down for the High Courts of Justice to be built. This is the building you see in this photograph above. Despite many numerous changes to the square's name - local Turkish-Cypriots still insist on calling the place Sarayönü (Palace Front) - sentimental, nostalgic but with rememberance of the ages past.
