Jessamine Road, Hanwell, November 1985
Seen here is a photograph of Jessamine Road, Hanwell in November 1985, which was rescued from a miscellaneous photo box at a rally. Despite it being of transport interest it is also a good representation of a suburban street scene some 25+ years ago. A Renault 18 and Austin Maxi are seen on the left, with a Honda parked further down the street. On the right a late survivor of an Austin Cambridge is seen, which managed to survive a creditable 20 years from 1968 to 1988. Of note is the relatively untouched nature of the houses which probably appear much as they did when built in the 1920's / 30's. With the advent of satellite dishes and replacement upvc double glazing in the 1990's the frontages would have changed significantly.
The transport connection is recorded in the caption on the back:
'...side entrance to Hanwell trolleybus depot - note the cut out in top of blue doors to accommodate wires. Concrete slab road in this cul-de-sac was to take trolleybus loading...'
