Deer Tick (Ixodes scapularis)

Taken in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

The ticks are back out! I went into the woods chasing after an American redstart and when I came out this lady was holding onto my shorts for deer life (get it? Since she's a deer tick?). I let her crawl across my hands while my mom got me my macro lens out for me and then set her on a piece of birch bark for a picture.

Ticks are super neat, I just wish they didn't spread such nasty diseases. Make sure you check yourself thoroughly when you're done outside, even if you were just in your backyard!
