Abraham. Atotonilco .jpg

Located 7.5 miles (12K) from San Miguel de Allende which can be reached by car, local bus, or on foot following the railroad. Atotonilco's (Place of hot water) Sanctuary (1740-48) was painted by Miguel Antonio de Pocosangre. Ignacio de Allende was married here (1802) and was the first staging point for the revolutionary army of Father Hidalgo which took for its banner the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Thousands of peregrinos (pilgrims) visit this site weekly. It has recently been restored. (Photo GM7708)
