As if the evening needed to get better, we finally found the Purbeck Barn Owl. These have been at the top of my hit list for years.
In fact not just the one Barn Owl, but an adult and a youngster!
The Sun was sinking behind the hills far too quickly, making any shot difficult, but junior decided to sit in a tree for a while and scream for his dinner.
(It didn't take too long to find which tree!)
We stayed watching the birds, as they hunted, long after the sun had set and found it very hard to leave!

Brilliant Julian. I saw my first a couple of months ago and it was just fantastic to watch.

Jealous or what. Great picture, but just the experience is magic

Well heard and spotted Julian - we did a breed and release some years ago with the National Trust in the Perbecks. Nice to think that perhaps some of their descendents might be surviving
