Disguised World War II Radar Station. Back in 1942, there was a real threat of the Japanese attacking the western coast. One of the things the government did was build this "secret" radar facility, to spot any invading aircraft. It was disguised as a couple of ordinary farm houses (so that it wouldn't stick out and be bombed), never mind that this was not exactly land for farming.
