Pearl Spotted Owlet
The world over owls seem to be associated with death, and that was only further confirmed to me during my work in Ol'Kiramatian. One of my Maasai friends informed me that at night if a family heard an owl hooting, they would all get up and chase it away, otherwise someone in the household would die in the following week.
Closer to home, when someone very close to me was dying of MS they told me that since they'd been diagnosed, they'd all of a sudden began running into owls everywhere they went. I was skeptical until one night, when we were out on Sakinaw, they called me over and I walked up to find them, five feet in front of a Barred Owl which was sitting on their car, starring directly at them.
If anyone has similar stories I'd be fascinated to hear them, this is something I can't stop thinking about.
