Deats Collection

The Deats Collection includes sound recordings and still images from the holdings of drummer Steve Deats, Music Co-director of La Troupe Makandal and second drummer in Mr. Augustin's ensemble from 1984 to 2012. Mr. Deats recorded drumming classes in Brooklyn, performances in various venues, and Vodou dances in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. He has also provided six photographs that were gifts of Chantal Regnault, a recording by Jean Jean-Pierre from the 1995 Bouyon Rasin Festival in Haiti, and two studio recordings that Mr. Augustin made with Kip Hanrahan.
