The mehndi ( Henna) ceremony generally takes place one or two days before the wedding. The ladies get their hands and feet decorated with henna in different design patterns.

Mehndi is a symbol of auspiciousness. the intricate design that decorate the palm includes folk art, figure of plants, birds and abstract symbols.

Henna on the bride is much more detailed and requires more time and she usually gets it done iin the morning. The girls feet and hands are adorned with ornamental mehndi patterns. Often the letter of groom name are also hidden within the patterns.

There is general belief that deeper the red of henna, the deeper the love between husband and wife.
