Well Deserved Review

Hands down, my favorite winery on my recent trip to the Napa Valley was Summers Estate Wines. Everything they poured was just excellent. The Rosé was fragrant but not overly sweet. The Chardonnay was smooth and light -- not too buttery and not too oaky. But what sold me was the Charbono. Man oh man. It explodes on your tongue and leaves a tart, fruity finish that must be experienced to be believed. I can't understand why this particular varietal all but disappeared from California after being the main wine grape in the state in the late 1800s. Anybody know? Anyway, Summers is definitely worth checking out. And if you look through the sliding glass door of the very inviting tasting room, you can see Robert Redford's horse stables.
