Lindsey Vonn dazzles in cream lace gown at the Laureus World Sports Awards after retiring

She retired from skiing last week after a hugely successful career.

And Lindsey Vonn celebrated the end of her professional career on Monday as she attended the 2019 Laureus World Sports Awards in Monaco.

The 34-year-old Olympian looked phenomenal as she hit the red carpet in a glamorous white gown that showcased her sensational figure.

The garment featured a sheer floor length white dress adorned with lace which sheathed a bodysuit.

Flashing her tanned and toned pins, the gown had a large split across the front, whilst she boosted her frame with a pair of silver barely-there heels.

Lindsey finished off the look by slicking her glossy golden locks back so her honey hued tresses cascaded past her shoulders.

Lindsey is nominated in this year’s awards for Comeback Of The Year.

She faces tough competition from US Tour Championship winner Tiger Woods, who won his first tournament in five years; India’s first ever Laureus Nominee, wrestling champion Vinesh Phogat and four inspirational Winter Olympic comeback athletes, Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu; Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris, and Dutch Paralympic champion Bibian Mentel-Spee.

Five days after crashing in super-G – a fall that knocked the wind out of her and left her with a black eye and a bruised rib – and three months after tearing a ligament in her left knee, Lindsey won the bronze medal in the downhill at Sunday’s World Championships in Sweden.

‘I’m literally tapped out, I can’t cry anymore,’ she told reporters on Sunday. ‘I want to cry but it’s dry. … It’s not an easy thing to feel your bones hitting together and continue to push through it.

‘Of course I’m sore. Even before the crash I was sore. So I’m just sore on top of sore. My neck is killing me,’ she said.

‘But at the end of the day no one cares if my neck hurts; they only care if I win. … I knew that I was capable of pushing through the pain one last time and I did that.

‘Every athlete has their own obstacles and I faced mine head on today and I conquered them.’

Lindsey had been planning on retiring in December but she recently moved up her plans due to persistent pain in both of her surgically repaired knees.

Then came the super-G crash, when she straddled a gate in midair, flew face first down the mountain and slammed into the safety nets.

‘She has been business as usual this whole week, saying I’m racing to win,’ Karin Kildow, Vonn’s sister, told The Associated Press.

‘I was like, “Just maybe make it down and maybe stand up.” But she was like, “No, I’m going full out.” She was definitely in the mindset to push it and she really did.’

It’s a medal that brings Lindsey full circle: the American’s two silvers at the 2007 worlds on the same course in were the first two major championship medals of her career.

The star will no doubt have been congratulated on her career by her fellow sporting stars as she attended the awards.

She is no stranger to the event, and in 2010, she received the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award.
