Ford Capri mk2. BBK244M.
So, I decided to go back to having a black interior with this car, as it had from new. Problem was the originals were in a bad way.
This is where a good trimmer is worth their weight!
The original black back boards were removed and binned as they were utterly rotten and not able to be saved. Luckily the black vinyl and trims were all good and came off the back boards ok. Some were a bit torn along the bottom but this can be repaired.
To sort the back boards, new ones were cut in ply using the originals as a template. The top edges are curved on the Capri to make a nice curved finish to the glass. Obviously this is impossible to replicate in ply so the much better brown door cards were also chopped up to provide good solid curved tops, which were then bonded and stapled to the new ply sections.
It was a shame to sacrifice the brown door cards but needs must. One mint set from two poor ones was a price worth paying.
