Chicago Winter Chill

    Newer Older

Chicago as seen from the North Avenue Beach. Winter was fading away, but it wasn't going out without a fight that evening. It was windy, and a biting cold, standing on that boardwalk, but it helped make for an exceptionally crisp clear evening. The wind made it pretty hard to keep the tripod steady. Luckily, I make a decent windbreak, but I still lost the majority of the pictures to some camera jitter. Look forward to going back, on a less windy night, and getting a picture with the dusk or dawn light. I tried for a picture from the south side, at Adler Planetarium, earlier in the trip, but it was raining and foggy. Have to leave something for next time.

Just Rich for now ..... :), and 59 other people added this photo to their favorites.

I am impressed by the lack of noise in that black sky. The lights and reflection are both great also. Bravo!

Thanks J.R. I can see some dust spots that I missed, but I was pretty impressed by the lack of pixel noise as well. Your comment reminded me that I didn't even do any post-processing for noise. I'm pretty happy with the D600.

hoben022002 It was at 52mm. I think I see my mistake - I'd inadvertently put this under the Nikon 18-300 mm group when it should have been the 28-300mm group. I've corrected that. It was definitely at 52mm, because I remember debating switching to my 50mm prime lense, but my fingers were pretty near frostbite so I opted for keeping all the digits.

Thanks Vicky - they can take a bit of work, but worth it when they work out. Cheers.
