How to Build Great Dental habits in Kids

For many #parents, one of the biggest challenges out there to implement to your kids is how to brush your teeth. After all, you want to make sure that they do this, and often, they will look up to what you do and learn from you as well. You’ll definitely want to make sure that you teach your children to care for their teeth. Sure, they might see their Santa Clarita dentist a lot, but actually brushing your teeth, practicing good oral hygiene including flossing, and the like will help put them on the right pathway to doing this as well. This article will tell you how to make brushing your teeth more enjoyable.

First, they need to know the basics. It’s important that they do learn the basic elements such as #brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing your teeth after that, having a good diet that limits sugar, use #fluoride #toothpaste and products, and also using a mouthwash as well. It’s important that they know about these tools and practices, since it can often mean a difference between healthy teeth, and unhealthy teeth now and in the future.

There are a few things that you can do however to help kids get started with brushing. Some kids don’t understand why you spend your time brushing your teeth, and while you could try to educate them like crazy, sometimes you should try to implement the good habits into them in other ways, and there are a few things you can do in order to do so.

First, get them a #toothbrush that reflects them. Kids love small things, and if they have a toothbrush they like, they’ll tend to use it. You can even bring them to help find a good toothbrush. You should also consider a good toothpaste that they enjoy as well. Sometimes some toothpastes are really strong, so they might not want to use it. But get them one they’ll like.

You should also try to make a game out of brushing teeth. If you can show that brushing teeth is fun and it’ll not be a tedious task, they’ll do it. You should create a system perhaps where you look at their teeth and see how clean they are, rewarding accordingly based on how clean or unclean you got them.

Now, you also want to have a reward system. You don’t have to give them money, but sometimes actually letting them watch TV for 15 minutes, or allowing them to go outside for another few minutes to play after dinner is a good reward. You can give them some great rewards from this, and while it might not be something physical, it’s simple enough that they will enjoy it and actually brush their teeth.

You can even teach them about teeth care by telling stories. There is a lot going on within our mouths each day, and it’s important that we clean them. Now, you could try to tell your child all about plaque, gum disease, and the like, but often that’s super complicated. Instead, tell them a story that explains it in simpler terms. Actually give them a reason to actually brush their teeth. These little stories do wonders for a child, since it will resonate with them, and a child will actually work to brush their teeth if they have a reason to.

Finally, if all else fails, try to brush your teeth together. The child will see from this that you’re taking care of your teeth, and that will show them that they should do it, especially if they want to have the best oral health. Remember, kids will look up to you, so you should use that to the best results that you can. Remember, children regard you as the coolest, so be the coolest.

You can also get the help of your dentist in Santa Clarita to help get a child started on brushing their teeth. Show them how fun it is, and how worth it for them it is, and you’ll see from there that it will make all the difference now, and in the future if you take the time.
