Typical Siberian House

Traditional wooden houses line the streets of Irkutsk.

Irkutsk is called the Jewel of Siberia and indeed its a lovely city where the river Angara pours out of the end of Lake Baikal.

It was set up in the early 19th century but the Decemberists. These were aristocracy who thought the Tsar was being a mite dictatorial and demanded political reforms. For their efforts they were banished to Siberia for 20 years.
