Early Manchester Olympian
The eighteenth of the production specimens to be precise. The first thirty had different engine gearbox combo's to allow GMT's engineers to evaluate which would be best option, which ended up as Gardner 6LXB power unit married to Leylands own Hydracyclic gearbox.
This one had the turbo-charged 6LXCT engine and the horrible low driving position. Thankfully GMT adopted the higher driving position from 3025 which I personally prefered.
The bus had been new to the former Salford City Transport depot at Frederick Road and this was it's home at the time of this shot in 1984. Throughout it's life it would also work from Rochdale, Atherton and Princess Road, ending its life in Manchester at the former location in allover blue livery as part of Stagecoach Manchester's 'Magic Bus' fleet.
