The former Greater Manchester 7380 was one of twenty-odd Fleetlines that were sent out on hire to London Buses to work the new Harrow Buses network of services due to the late delivery of a batch of new MCW Metrobuses ordered for the routes.
None recieved London fleetnumbers and all operated in Manchesters orange livery. This one wears the new west area pale green relief band of the new GM Buses company that took over the PTEs services following deregulation. Ironically the bus never worked for GM Buses, the application of new fleetnames being applied haphazardly to vehicles from the summer of 86.
The bus had been new to Leigh garage and had been that depots first 'Standard', its allocation there neccesiatating the raising of the 'croft' in the parking area as the garage had only housed lowheight vehicles previously. Following the closure of LH in February 86 the bus moved a few miles to the former LUT headquarters at Atherton and its here that the bus had worked its last journey for the PTE. The side adverts for Hillards supermarket was carried by many Atherton buses and the 'Now Open' was an addition as originally applied they showed the opening date.
Today both Leigh and Atherton garage have housing developments on them, Hillards is TESCO and the buses are no longer orange!
