Arriva North East | 7490 / LF02 PKU
Arriva Northumbria 7490, LG02 PKU, is pictured in Durham on Setdown at the Bus Station whilst on loan to Arriva Durham County, Belmont depot covering for 7493 which is undergoing repairs.
Recently 2 VDL DB250 ELC Myllennium Lowlanders have been withdrawn from service at Belmont to keep the other remaining examples going and 7493/7494 are to replace these temporarily at Belmont depot. The withdrawn examples are 7453 (YJ57 BVD) and 7454 (YJ57 BVE). All 4 examples have experienced quite a challenging life at Arriva North East with being bought new for the 518 (X18) and they coped fine. 2014 saw new Enviro 400s bought for the X18 and the VDL DB250 ELC Lowlanders being transferred to Belmont. Coast work didn't do much favours to the bodywork or chassis especially with the body being ELC. They lived on the 43 between Esh Winning and Durham however in the recent year they became extremely unreliable due to lack of available parts and poor maintenance however are still excellent vehicles when they work and are appreciated by the drivers at Belmont - just not the engineers.
The January service changes also saw Faverdale's 2850 and 2851 transfer to Belmont due to the extension of the 57 to Hartlepool and slight modification of the 57A to replace the 58 which was operated by Scarlet Band Bus and Coach of West Cornforth. The 57 now InterWorks with the 43, meaning the PVR of the 43 is completed with 2 Optare Solos and 2 Deckers. The 49/49A is now operated by base Frequenta Enviro 200s 1324-1327 with 1320-1323 staying on the Frequenta 64 alongside VDL SB200 Wright Pulsar 2s and whatever else Belmont can find.
