Ada Lovelace - experiment
In this piece I was looking both at the structure of a computer and also the disintegrating health of Ada Lovelace.
She was a comuter pioneer and died at the age of 36 from cancer.
I have woven newspaper and painted calico and then stitched on top in a grid pattern.
I then used Transfer Medium to transfer an image of a silloutte of Ada on to the surface and then I coated this in PVA.
The whole piece was then cut back to form a grid.
A layer of gesso was then painted over the surface and watercolour pencils rubbed over the top.
When I analyzed this piece I decided that it could do with extensive work to make it more colourful, so I abandoned it and moved on to other samples. Looking at it again I think that if I had removed the phototransfer I could have easily retrived it.
