The Soaked Turntable

During a heavy downpour, we find this turntable built by the Rock Island in the 1880's just north of downtown Peoria, IL in Riverfront Park. At one time, a roundhouse and shop facility was located here. Many fine steamers of the Rock used this turntable before it was given to the city for display in the 1960's. If you listen closely, you can almost still here the faint whistle of a P Class 4-6-2.

Also located here is the former Rock Island office building and "new" passenger depot, but that's another story.
