After waiting for three months my pre-ordered Wii finally arrived a week ago. However because it arrived just before we went away we didn't get chance to play on it properly until last night.
It's so weird playing games using the Wiimote controller. Seeing your virtual avatar move on screen in direct correlation with your own movements is a completely new paradigm. It's definitely the future of gaming, much more so than either the XBox 360 or the PS3 which are just more of the same in higher resolution.
Of course being an innovator doesn't always get you to the top. The Sega Dreamcast (my favourite console of recent years) was packed with innovation from Internet ready gaming out of the box (admittedly via a 56k modem) to controllers you could upgrade with 'visual memory' and rumble packs. The games too looked stunning, especially the Sega published ones (Sonic, Crazy Taxi, House of the Dead...). Shame the PS2 killed off development for the Dreamcast.
It'll be interesting to see if Nintendo have enough of a lead on the PS3 which is launched this Friday.
