The House That Bruno Built

If you find yourself driving along Canyon View Dr in Ransom Canyon Texas you eventually come across a salient steel structure. To those of us whom live in the area it is know as the Steel House. Some residents of the area consider it to be an eye sore but I consider it to be Pure Genius! From the outside it looks more like a spaceship out of a Mars movie but once inside it becomes a geometrical amazement. This organic architecture is a culmination of 35 years of Robert Bruno's life. The home is based on a steel sculpture that inspired him to make it into a livable metal art form. Sadly the home was never completed secondary to the death of it's creator in 2008.

In the September issue of Vogue USA is a spread by Steven Klein of a futuristic fashion photo session where Google meets Bruno. The gig focuses more on the outer structure than the confluent metal within. As I previewed the structure last week for my upcoming fashion photo session, I realized this house was far more than metal welded together. It is a work of art carefully designed for the human eye to follow the lines from ceiling to floor, wall to door, weld to window. I also realized this house must be seen through a 170deg view. It was built for the human eye not a 200mm lens. So in a few days I will put human form into Bruno's metal genius. I'm giving serious consideration photoing it with a 15mm lens. Not a lens of choice for a fashion gig.
