Adding Prairie Grass and Pine Evergreens to a Landscape of Eroded Granite Towers and Spires (Custer State Park)
From an overlook I walked up to around the Needles Eye Tunnel area in Custer State Park. By angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, I felt I was best able to capture more of a sweeping view across this granite and boulder filled landscape. While somewhat overcast with the skies above, I liked how they added a nice light tonal contrast to the tall evergreen trees scattered here and there. Metering this image was a matter of finding a location along one of the nearby granite towers that had a little bit of shadow to get the exposure I wanted. I was then able to work with control points and color control points in Capture NX2 to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted.
