Looking West towards Denshaw,Rochdale and Manchester, the M62 motorway winds its way across the moors.

The popular myth states that the carriageway splits to go around a stubborn farmer who refused to sell his land for the motorway development.Well thats not true,it splits purely for engineering reasons. The two carriageways run across a sloping hillside and that would of meant a huge amount of clearing and explosive work to get the correct width.Cheaper and easier to split into two and go around the farm.Ripponden Road is on the right with the `Turnpike Inn` lights reflecting into the reservoir.
