Comparison stars from APASS
1.ATel 12030 states this resembles SN 2018cow (which was initially thought to be a Type Ic-BL then Type Ib) www.astronomerstelegram.org/?read=12030
2.For my measurement of 16.1 that corresponds to an absolute magnitude of about –19.9 for the reported redshift of z = 0.033 per ATel 12030 and 0.03 magnitude of extinction.
Update September 13, 2018. I observed the supernova on the night of September 12 with the 17.5-inch. Estimated it at 15.9 and made a sketch of the field at 380x. Also, obtained robotic images last night, but have not yet posted them. Supernova was unchanged in brightness at 16.11 +/- 0.02 on the luminance stack (2018 September 13.131). Also, got images in Johnson V where it measured 16.14 +/- 0.04 (2018 September 13.138).
Update 9-14: Whoops forgot to change the name of the supernova when copying and pasted. This has been corrected.
